I have carried a pocket knife for about as long as I can remember. Never gave it much thought really......
Last week, a package needed to be opened and I was surprised to find that I was the only man who carried a pocket knife in the office. Asking around I found
even our field technicians as a rule did not carry a pocket knife. A few carried a single bladed folding " clip " knife, but very few. Feeling a
bit like Rip Van Winkle here. So I'm asking....
Do you carry a pocket knife? As for myself, unless I'm on a plane...I got a Case in my pocket.

Always JM or at least have it in the jeep with me. If I don't put it back in the cup holder after I return to the jeep I find I forget and leave it in my
change of clothes. My Grandfather always carried one and was always giving me a pocket knife much to my mum's dismay as a child! I use mine for everything
from opening feed bags to paunching rabbits. It's just a plain old clasp Swiss army knife.
I'm actually helping a fella, along with a few others of us, develop an Irish hunting knife. We are just finishing the design of the handle before the knife is to be made. Irish Snipe. |

I carry a bird knife with a gut hook. The only time I don't have it is when I have to go the courthouse. That is where our office was until a couple of
years ago. Now I only have to go there for a few days each year around the first of November.

I carry a Benchmade throughout the week and on Sunday's I carry a small Case to church just in case it's needed.

I have several pocket knifes (or as we say on my Portuguese region "naifas"). They are not special models, but they are very useful. Sometimes
they give me headaches...airport security, police and even Pope's security...

Interesting knife, Dick. I've always had a pocket knife. The earliest one that I remember was given to me by my older brother ... a blue-handled cub
scout knife with a broken blade. I wish I still had it.

Always except where I have to go through security. Once on a day trip to Dallas on Southwest Airlines I forgot to leave my pocket knife (a little Buck knife
with a lockback feature) in my truck or at home. When the security people found it in the dish with wallet,change, etc., I asked for it back and walked back
into the airport behind me. That is, I left the security area and went back to the part of the airport where you come in. I saw a big pot plant with moss
covering the dirt. As inconspicuously as a I could muster, I sidled up to the pot, shoved the knife into the dirt and covered the spot with the moss. It was
still there when I returned that evening.
As a kid, my father taught me to play Mumbly Peg. It is a game where you throw a knife way too close to your opponents feet and other dumb stunts. Today, the child welfare folks would probably be after him for that. My knife comes in handy for all sorts of things. I do not know how most folks get along without one. Lobo Y Zorro |

Dick, a couple of times I have thought about getting one of those shotgun shell knives but I haven't followed through yet. I keep some spares in a case
because you never know when you will lose one. Last season I lost the first one probably since I was a teenager. It was when I stripped down to go wading for a
bird. Somehow when I geared up I left it laying on the ground. Hence the need for spares. It looks like I'm acquiring extras faster than I'm losing
them and I need a bigger case to keep them in. The one with the wood scales laying on the table is the one I am currently carrying. The one I lost was the same
model and the one on the left in the middle is also the same model. Can't have too many, you know?

I have carried one since eight or nine years old. I used it daily on the farm to cut feed bags and twine when feeding. I have continued to carry one since and
always feel a bit jittered if I find myself with an empty pocket. I currently carry a three blade Camillus, along with a Leatherman Tool. I have a drawer full
of old Schrade/Old Timer folders and an old Hen and Rooster. I have several fixed blade hunting knives also of various blade designs. Buck, Case, Schrade,
Western, and Walden. A sharp knife can be one of the handiest tools to keep close at hand. Be prepared.

Les, how well do those gut hooks work? I have seen them on ebay and have wondered if I should make a bid. Very nice collection, thanks for sharing.

I have never tried using the gut hook. It would pull the intestines out of a snipe but not the other organs. I prefer my birds drawn before being cooked. I
usually breast them out but the few that are cooked whole are cut from side to side where the flesh is real thin below the breast bone. I do the same thing
with ducks. That allows me to reach all the way in and get the lungs, windpipe, and other things that don't come out with the intestines.
