Welcome to the forum. I don't live near there but I can tell you that snipe are looking for the same things so matter which state or country they are in.
They need wet ground and food. The food will be worms and other invertebrates and the wet ground can come in the form of flooded fields and pastures, lake
edges, or tidal marshes. A flat pasture with a creek flowing through it and livestock might be the conditions you are most likely to encounter that could hold
snipe. The creek will keep the ground wet and the cow patties will attract worms that the snipe want to eat. I imagine most of the snipe hunting in North
Carolina is done along the coast but that doesn't mean you won't find them in other areas. How long any birds moving through will stay is going to
depend on not only the availability of good habitat but also weather. Since they probe for food it can't stay below freezing too long or their food will go
too deep in the ground to be reached and they will be forced to push on to warmer areas. Are you in the lowlands, foothills, or mountains?
