Posts: 1542 07/01/09 1:46 PM	Tags : None I've just found out lead shot is to banned this season in Northern Ireland over wetlands. I'm a member of the featured shooting association, I'm also a member of a wildfowling club. I also like to regularly read my weekly shooting magazines, but somewhere I seemed to have missed this upcoming law! I thought they are supposed to give you time to register your protest to these things? I read the pdf file and it offers no hard evidence on the use of lead, it seems to be just some European directive that we have to follow. What really gets my goat up is that my local wildfowling club or my shooting association didn't think it necessary to inform me! The other thing is from what I read my own shooting ground is not classed as wetlands except where a stream runs through it. This means that virtually every field has a stream running down the side of it. It's too small for duck to use so I doubt they will not be 'poisioned' from my lead. It's confusing. Oh, and now I have to figure out what sized steel cartridges I have to use! Irish Snipe

Posts: 1494 07/01/09 5:37 PM	Keith, I'll keep this simple by stating that all shot is toxic. It might not all be toxic to the same things at the same levels but at some level it is. Increased levels of any mineral will have some effect on the flora and/or fauna of any ecosystem, period. That lead is a serious threat is a lie. Once steel shot becomes the standard shot material you will see the same assault on it that you saw on lead. This issue isn't about ducks or any other wildlife. It's about time more people got a clue about that. One of the worst things the BASC could have agreed to was a ban on lead once a suitable substitute was found. You need to go on the offensive and do anything you can to have that overturned, and the sooner the better.

Posts: 1546 07/03/09 2:40 AM	Okay I emailed off to my local elected representative, my shooting organisation, my wildfowling club and I posted my woes on an Irish hunting site. Unfortunately I have the flu and the voice is nearly gone otherwise I would be ringing them too! Maybe it will be back by Monday. Keith

I was at a game fair last weekend in the rain with no coat and although yesterday evening wasn't too bad I was at an outdoor concert of the Eagles here in Dublin. Great music but I should have been in my bed. That's rock and roll for you! Also don't worry I haven't posted you the plague I got my better half to send the DVD's to you. She's a good nurse with plenty of hot whiskey for the throat! Keith

The new push is already on here, I read a pamphlet by the antis here that says the ingested steel shot is terrible because stomach acids cause the steel to corrode and these sharp and rusty 'spheres of death' tear the intestines up causing suffering and lingering death. It isn't about even hunting, it's about Freedom, and the way the socialists are taking it away, today it is smoking in public places, seatbelts in your own auto, tomorrow it is hunting, what you can eat in your own kitchen and what God you can pray to in your own home....It's about Freedom. I said it to Skip and I say it to you, if you think the lead ban injust then refuse to comply, the only recourse is to ignore stupid laws. Let them fine me, let the court decide that lead is worse than steel, make them prove that lead is bad, I only have to sit there and be the defendant.

Posts: 1575 07/10/09 3:41 PM	Hi Northernborn, I joined my shooting organisation to lend my voice to the thousands in the hope that when more than one man stands up to this sort of thing they will listen. It seems to me the thousands were never asked. My money will now go elsewhere along with all the others I can convince. I don't have the kahunas to do what your saying but I will remain true to myself and register my protest while staying within the law. I will be more proactive in finding out what else is coming down the line and fight the good fight as best I can. All the best, Keith
