I sure wish I had a camera at work yesterday. A pair of killdeer had their clutch out for a walk. The chicks were the same coloration as the adults but in
miniature. Several crows were watching the chicks but did not bother them. This was the first time I have seen them and I was surprised to see these. They were
near the big drainage pond at work.

My Dad used to talk of them. I dont know what they are like, just that they make a call that says "Kill- deer"?

Joe, they are a plover that is common on our freshwater marshes and fields. I remember one that was nesting on some small scattered gravel. I noticed the adult
doing the broken wing act and it took me a while to spot a couple of eggs laying on the ground.

The old broken wing act! I think it is great to watch. I usually take a step back and leave them be, but it always catches me by surprise, I really think they
are injured!
