I don't know much about Stevens but was wondering if anyone on here did? I was unaware of any early ( pre ser #) Stevens SST SxS but have no reference books on them.
asking price was $169 COB

Stevens 16 ga. SxS |

I was given a ring by a fella a state over who ran across a Stevens 16 gauge SxS, Mod and Imp, he said was "tired and worn" but locked up tight with
no gaps, the odd thing was he said it was with single selective trigger and no ser. numbers

If it is tight that is great price for a shooter. How could you go wrong for $169.00 in that case..

That's what was crossing my mind as well Dick, even if the SST was added, and I doubt it was, for that much coin even if it lasts a couple season without
repair I'd be ahead.
i found a 32 ga and a 24 ga on auctionarms and am shoving my pennies in on them right now, but should they not pan out, as I likely will be outbid by someone with deeper pockets than me, which is everyone on the auction sites, then I will take the 16 Stevens for a ride. |

Bob, there are enough different Stevens doubles that more information is needed to determine what gun you are talking about. At least one has lines that I
like. Any gun that is tight and on face with sound finish on the metal and steel should be worth that if it strikes your eye. I'm not sure when they
stopped stamping Stevens on the guns and started putting Savage on everything but maybe the one you looked at is from prior to the marriage of the two
companies. It will probably require pictures to find out much more.
On the other hand, are you trying to swipe those hammer guns away from me. |

Are you bidding on them too?
I'll bow out if you are, I am not sure I'll meet the Reserve anyway. edit: He wants $50 to ship them each, I htink that is crazy high for shipping, and why not combine them if you win both? If he had better feedback I'd bid higher but as of now i am high bidder on both, far and away from Reserve I would wager.

Bob, I was just funnin' with you. I am not in on either of those two auctions and I couldn't use those guns. I have informally window shopped for a
hammer gun a couple of times but I have to have one with an external safety. As much as I walk around half-cocked I can't hunt with a gun that is. For me
to use a hammer gun I would have to be able to keep the hammers fully cocked. I have seen hammer guns that have safeties and I'm not even sure if they add
to or detract from the value/price. One attempt with a double barrel muzzleloader was enough for me to know that cocking hammers as part of the mount after a
snipe has flushed isn't going to cut it. At least not with my shooting style.

I'm so used to hunting with the flintlocks that I am reaching for a hammer when I've got the pump gun, LOL, those guns will be back up, he said no to
$500+ for the 32.
I'm going to pass on the 16, sight unseen, it's not a favorite gauge of mine and I've 2 already that don't get much use, thanks for the info and feedback fellas. |

Bob, I'm sure he did say no to $500. What people ask for those oddballs is almost asinine. If I had to do it all over again I might not have bought mine.
Alright, I still would have but I had no idea loading for it was going to be such a pain in the butt.

given the BS to get parts and repairs done and not being able to hold the gun to examine it, I'd rather pay Seminole guns or Dina or a machinist to make me
a subgauge than go more than half a grand on that hammer gun, and the 24? forget it...that makes the 32 look common place around here, i shot live bird with a
guy with a 24 once years ago and he was assured of being the only one in that gauge class but it was not worth it for the stories he told of finding ammo and
reloading, etc in this part of the country.
I'm ure they will relist it, there was a fella had a PA hunter flinter on there for months relisted and relisted , time and again at a reserve beyond common sense, not sure what the end NET is with months fo relisting and listing fees with photos and all, I have sold guns on the sites and only broken even before with the fees and honest shipping. I guess i'll live with the 28 for a bit more! LOL. |
